BOSTON, MA (November 10, 2008) - John Hancock Financial has been named one of the Top 100 Places to Work in Massachusetts and one of the Top 25 Large Company Employers in the debut of an employee-based survey project from The Boston Globe, conducted by Workplace Dynamics.
Nearly three hundred companies participated in the survey. Rankings were composite scores calculated purely on the basis of a survey sent to 120,000 employees.
John Hancock was ranked 83rd on the overall list. John Hancock also was listed as 24th on the Large Workplaces list (firms with more than 1,000 employees), one of only three financial-services firms among the Large Workplaces.
Produced by the same team that compiles the 21-year-old Globe 100 report of the best-performing public companies in Massachusetts, the Top Places to Work recognizes the most progressive companies in the state based on employee opinions about company leadership, compensation and training, diversity/inclusion, career development, family-friendly flexibility, and values and ethics. Private companies and nonprofits as well as publicly-held businesses were included in the analysis.
"This is quite an honor for John Hancock," said John D. DesPrez III, President and Chief Executive Officer, John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. "We are proud to be recognized as one of the top companies in the region, and especially honored because this recognition comes from our employees. We like to say that John Hancock offers its employees an opportunity to achieve the promises they've made to themselves about their professional future, and we really mean that here. We work very hard to ensure that this is a great place to work, and build a career."
The publisher of The Boston Globe, Steve Ainsley stated, "All the companies included in the Globe 100's Top Places to Work deserve a great deal of recognition. It's clear that they value their employees and make it a priority to create a positive workplace."
The Globe 100's Top Places to Work magazine was published in the Sunday Globe on November 9. Online, the report can be found at boston.com/topworkplaces.
Workplace Dynamics is an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention. This marks the first time that a Globe 100 report honors private as well as publicly-held organizations.
