Amanda Weaver Steps into New Government Relations Leadership Role at John Hancock
BOSTON, May 18, 2026 – John Hancock today announced that Amanda Weaver has been named Vice President & Counsel, Government Relations, responsible for leading the company’s state legislative and regulatory strategy in support of its business priorities and policyholder commitments.
Weaver joined John Hancock’s Government Relations team in 2020 and has played a critical role in advancing key legislative and regulatory initiatives. Since then, she has expanded her portfolio, impact, and leadership across the government relations function and the broader business.

Weaver succeeds Ken Ross, Vice President & Counsel, Government Relations, who will retire from John Hancock this month. Ross joined John Hancock in 2018, bringing extensive knowledge of the complex legislative and regulatory environment impacting the insurance industry.
During his tenure, Ross led John Hancock’s government relations efforts, helping to pass state legislation, shape regulatory outcomes, and guide state-level outreach initiatives. A highly strategic and respected leader, Ross is known for his ability to align business objectives with public policy priorities while protecting John Hancock’s strong reputation and longstanding relationships with policymakers and regulators.
Prior to joining John Hancock, Weaver held government relations and policy roles with Health Care Service Corporation, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and the American Academy of Actuaries, as well as positions on Capitol Hill in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
